Energy and CO₂ monitoring in existing installations – NXTGN makes analogue machines fit for the energy transition

Digital recording of energy efficiency and CO₂ emissions is becoming increasingly important for manufacturing companies in view of exploding energy prices and rising environmental requirements. autosen integration partner NXTGN digitised an analogue film extruder at a packaging company (not only) for energy and CO₂ monitoring.

To determine direct CO₂ emissions, the consumption data from an electricity meter on the machine are analysed. In addition, the impeller of an analogue meter was equipped with a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor. This makes it possible to track the length of film produced and use it for production planning. At the same time, quality monitoring was also optimised. IO-Link sensors were fitted to the machine to record humidity and room temperature. Both have a direct impact on product quality. Even the smallest changes require the shortest response times to prevent scrap.

Data collection via io-key® & apollo

io-key® & apollo are used for data collection and transmission. The io-key® transfers the sensor data automatically, in a structured way and securely to apollo. With apollo, it is possible to aggregate large amounts of data from many sources centrally on AWS, Microsoft Azure, Siemens MindSphere or any cloud environment.

NXTGN uses the io-key® in combination with a customer-specific cloud based on MS Azure and NXTGN’s own connectivity. On this largely preconfigured basis, the pilot project could be implemented quickly. The effort required to integrate additional IO-Link sensors is also low: detection of new sensors and transfer to the NXTGN cloud by the io-key® takes just one minute.
