Surface temperature sensor

Surface temperature sensors are very compact and can be used flexibly for temperature measurement on pipes and tanks. They are mounted externally on the surface and measure temperature without direct contact with the medium—ideal when you don’t want to open the process. They are well suited for applications with liquid and gaseous media (indirect measurement via the surface).

Surface temperature sensors are a robust and economical solution for monitoring temperatures on pipes and tanks without direct contact with the medium. They are mounted externally on the measuring point (e.g., using a clamp/strap and thermal contact) and reliably capture the process temperature via the surface. Since the process is not opened, installation is quick and the risk of leakage is minimized. With autosen surface sensors, you can select suitable connection technology for convenient wiring depending on the version.

Advantages of surface temperature sensors

  • Easy retrofit installation from the outside
  • No intrusion into the process (no thread, no sealing point in the medium)
  • Fast response time compared to solutions with immersion sleeves (application-dependent)
  • Wide temperature measuring range (e.g. -50…180°C, depending on model)
  • Suitable for liquid and gaseous media (measured indirectly via the surface)
  • Low maintenance and vibration-resistant mounting (application-dependent)

Applications Surface temperature sensors are used in heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air-conditioning (HVAC/R) systems and wherever pipe or tank temperatures need to be monitored from the outside, e.g. for control, energy monitoring or safety functions.
